Owning a multipurpose garden room

Mar 31, 2023 | Blog | 0 comments

The trend for garden rooms and garden buildings continues at pace.

Twenty or even thirty years ago, owning a summer house proved an ideal opportunity to enjoy that first cup of tea or coffee in the morning sun. However, it didn’t have any alternative uses and owners would often become an additional storage shed over the colder months.

In the last decade, garden rooms have evolved into a more tailored space. With an ever increasing number of employers encouraging remote working or hybrid working, many employees are now installing a garden room to become a dedicated workspace. The number of garden offices or office pods has increased at the rate of around 4% year on year. Rightmove stated in August 2022 that within their house listings, the garden office is identified as a key selling point which has seen a 1046% increase in mentions since 2012!

The reason behind this increase is clear – according to The Property Centre it is now established that a high-quality and long-lasting garden room will add up to 10% of your property’s value as well as improve your ability to sell.

However, it is important to note a distinction here; the expectation would be that the garden room is built to a high standard. Examples of a high specification would include cavity walls that are well insulated, materials that meet building standards and the inclusion of electrics. Meeting planning expectations is also important and you can read more about this here.

For some garden room companies, such as E-spaces Design and Create Ltd. there has been a real thought process in the design and development of their garden rooms. Rather than focus on designing a garden room as a dedicated workspace, their products allow for a multipurpose space. The logic is clear – while you might want a place to work Monday to Friday, you should also have the opportunity to transform it for other uses. Additionally, if you are looking to reduce the amount of time you work or retire completely, having a design such as the e-Lodge means you can move from a dedicated workspace to an art studio, gym, music room, recording studio, cinema, games room or even a bunk room.

With a well designed garden room, the opportunities for multiple uses are limitless!
