How a well-designed garden office saves on your utility bills

A key consideration for those who are planning to work from home is the additional spend on utilities. Instead of being able to benefit from the heat and light provided by the employer, the individual working from home will always have to foot that bill.

With some of the scariest price rises ever seen in gas and electricity, this is making some people think again – which is a shame when you consider the wider cost savings as described in our recent blog, How working from home can save you money.

However, well-designed, energy-efficient garden offices just like the e-Den range designed by E-spaces Design and Create Ltd have minimal running costs. In fact, when considering that if you are lucky enough to have the space (and quiet) to work inside your house, the likelihood is that you are wasting energy by heating and lighting more space than is necessary.

So just how much would it cost to run a garden office pod such as above? The E-spaces team use two 10w LED natural light bulbs that reflect off the curved ceiling to provide more than enough light on the darkest days and evenings.

At the current electricity price cap of 28p a kWh, if these two lights are run for eight hours per day, they would use just 0.16 kWh which would cost less than 4.5 pence per day or £1.36 per month.

In the cold winter months, running their 1kWh heater through an app controlled and thermostatic timer can cost just 60p per day over seven hours of continuous running at 20 degrees*

Being able to work in a warm, well-lit environment in even the coldest months can still be an economic and fuel efficient way of working. There never has been a better time to invest and work in your garden office
